“Memorias efímeras” is a speculative digital experience created for a Digital Ecosystems class, given by designers from Mendesaltaren Studio in the Beyond Branding Master at Elisava Madrid. It was conceived and executed in collaboration with fellow classmates, Inés Navarro and Violeta Martin.
In a near future where we’ve reoriented design to reduce the audiovisual pollution we encounter in a city, “Memorias efimeras” seeks to portray a subtle, sensitive experience where ease of participation leads to emotional connection. Established in the working-class neighborhood of Carabanchel, currently threatened by gentrification, our experience seeks to preserve memory and convey the ephemeral nature of it. The hope is to connect neighbors, their stories, and awaken curiousity for the stories that lay hidden in the streets, in place you wouldn’t think to look twice.
A gentle sound notification appears indicating a nearby story, and as the user discovers the place where the story will be told by audio, a transparent screen holds a visual that can only be discovered by laying a personal screen on top. The participation of the user is key to connect them to the short memory, which will only be available for 24 hours after experiencing it. From then, it will remain up to the user to keep it and share it.
Concept, sound and visual design.
